Education

I was very fortunate to have moved to Southern California in time to attend Dana Hills High School in Dana Point for the last three years of my high school education. One of my main achievements in high school was participating and winning first place two years in a row in the French Speaking competition. I had to write a 5 minute speech on a provided subject, then memorize it and recite it in front of judges. As part of the training for the contest, my French teacher had me practice daily in front of my class for weeks prior to the competition. Even though this was long time ago, it did teach me how to overcome the anxiety of speaking in front of people, and more importantly how to present myself.

In addition to my academic work in high school, I was also on the DHHS Dolphins Swimming Team, go Dolphins!!!

After graduating from high school, I attended University of California, San Diego, Revelle College (named after Roger Revelle) where I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy. As part of the Revelle graduation requirements (UCSD then had 4 colleges and each has it’s own set of graduation requirements), in addition to my major and minor coursework, my curriculum included classes in Calculus, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Ethics, Humanities, Computer Programming, Theater, Art History, and I passed proficiency in French. The experience and skills I learned then that I still use today are interviewing skills from my psychology classes which I use in customer interactions and hiring employees, statistical analysis and math I use for financial and business strategy and planning, and basic research and documentation of findings which includes writing status and summary reports. Additionally, I learned how to improvise when in unexpected business situations from my Theater Improvisation class. This only shows that you never know which experience will prove useful at some future situation!
